HURRICANES OF THE HEART
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53: 5
King James Version
Many of us are apprehensive right now since hurricane season started last month.
Some of us have had bitter experience with hurricanes and their devastation. All
of us are praying that another hurricane won’t strike an already ravaged area.
There is a different kind of hurricane that sometimes strikes us daily. It is a
hurricane of the heart. A lot of times we have just gotten over being attacked
with criticism and sarcasm and it strikes again.
When Jesus was here He also experienced hurricanes, but His hurricanes were far
worse than what we go through in this life. His heart must have broken over all
the cruel things that were said and done to Him. One of the times when He asked
His friends to watch as He was praying, they fell asleep. He must have felt a
mixture of emotions when He saw them sleeping. He probably felt anger and at the
same time had compassion for them.
Jesus feels the hurricanes of loneliness, despair and turmoil in our hearts. He
longs to give us peace, His peace, a peace that the world can’t give us or take
away from us. He Loves us so much and wants us to be happy. When He died on the
cross for us, He became our peace. What a Saviour, this Jesus of Calvary!
If you don’t have peace in your heart today, allow Jesus to comfort you with His
peace, a peace that passes all understanding. He will take the hurricanes from
your heart.
