I WAS TIRED TOO
“Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel
of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus
therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was
about the sixth hour.”
John 4: 5, 6
King James Version
There are times when we get tired and are tempted to put
things off until the next day. That’s okay with some things, but there are other
things that must be done every day. I’m really tired today and I briefly thought
about not sending out a devotional. Before I even had a chance to ask Jesus if
that is okay with Him, this verse came to my mind. He was a lot more tired than
we will ever be, yet He walked that long lonely road that day to the cross to be
crucified for us.
Jesus was tired too. He was tired physically and emotionally. He had been beaten
beyond recognition. He had been ridiculed, forsaken, scorned, mocked and they
even cursed Him. He must have been so tired of hearing all the things they said
to Him that weren’t true. We will never fully comprehend how tired He was that
day when He allowed Himself to be crucified on an old rugged cross for us. His
strength and energy was depleted and He was tired.
We get weary with our journey in life. It seems sometimes that we just get out
of one crisis, and a worse crisis occurs. Jesus understands as He too faced
extremely difficult situations. When we are hurting and feel like we can’t go
another step, it is then that we need to run into the waiting arms of Jesus and
ask Him to help us. He will be faithful to comfort, encourage and put the
determination back into our hearts. Let’s not grow weary in serving Jesus. He is
worthy of going on when we want to quit.
