REAL PERFECTION
“The young man saith unto
him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said
unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the
poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when
the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great
possessions.”
Matthew 19: 20 – 22
King James Version
We are living in a world that demands perfection on our
jobs and in our schools. We also demand it of ourselves. For years we have
allowed satan and the world to tell us that if we don’t make straight A’s on our
reports cards and drive the best cars and live in a big home with a three car
garage there is something wrong with us. I used to become depressed because I
couldn’t fold fitted sheets as pretty as other people.
Real perfection in the eyes of Jesus is a heart in right standing with Him. It
matters not how many material possessions we accumulate; what makes Him happy is
how much love we give Him and give to our families, loved ones, friends and to
the world. He has commanded us to love one another as He Loves us with
unconditional love, yet often we fail Him in this area.
I’m reminded of something a woman told me several years ago as I was going door
to door on visitation for church. I asked her “If you knew God was telling you
to sell your home and give the money to missions, would you do it”? She didn’t
hesitate, she said “Absolutely not, I have worked hard for this home and it
belongs to me”. How that must have hurt the heart of our dear Saviour! Let’s not
waste our time and energy acquiring wealth on this earth. We need to utilize our
time, talents and energy in building love for Jesus in people’s hearts. Jesus is
worthy of our love and everything we have!
